As Israelis lined up today at the election polls, celebrating ‘the only democracy in the Middle East,’ disenfranchised Palestinians faced the Israeli army in the rebuilt ‘Jerusalem Gate’ protest encampment near Abu Dis. The protest encampment has been destroyed numerous times before and was erected to reclaim territory earmarked for a new Jewish only settlement. The IDF violently dispersed protesters with tear gas, stun grenades and rubber coated steel bullets, arresting seven of them (three Palestinians and four Israelis).
