Scores staged a vigil at Jaffa’s historic clock tower square in solidarity with Palestinian political prisoners on hunger strike in Israeli jails, Since 17 April (observed by Palestinians as Prioner’s Day), at least 1500 political prisoners have been on hunger strike, protesting the conditions of their incarceration and demanding their amelioration. Israel responses with brutal crackdown on the strike’s leaders, prominent among them Marwan Bargouti, who was subsequently relocated to another prison and put in solitary confinement. Other similar steps followed, including physical abuse of prisoners.
