On “Friday of the Tires,” as nicknamed by Palestinians, the Israeli military invaded the West Bank community of Nabi Saleh in the late afternoon. At the same time, thousands of Palestinians were burning tires near the de-facto border with Israel, demanding an end to the decade-long siege and their right to return to their homeland. This year marks the70th anniversary of the Nakba, or the mass Palestinian displacement, and Palestinians are marking the occasion with marches and a renewed call for Israel to respect their right of return.
After the Israeli soldiers invaded the village, local youth confronted them with burning tires and hurled stones. The soldiers responded with a barrage of tear gas, rubber-coated steel bullets and live ammunition. No serious injuries were reported.
