For the fifth day, residents of Rahat, a southern Bedouin town in the Negev / Naqab, took to the streets to protest the police killing of two locals, Sami al-Ja’ar and Sami al-Ziyadneh, the latter killed during the funeral procession of the former. Thousands marched from the home of al-Ja’ari to the family home of al-Ziyadneh, and many of the participants came from as far as Yafa to show solidarity. After the march, several protesters proceeded to the local police station, where they blocked the main thoroughfare and burnt tires. As police reinforcements arrived at the scene, the situation escalated as the police officers responded with brutality and arrested a few protesters.
Then, a police squad car sped into a group of protesters, hitting one of them. As a result, the protester was thrown several meters in the air before landing on the asphalt. The protester was evacuated to Soroka hospital in Beersheba with severe multiple lacerations in his heads and other parts of his body.
