Protests against the Prawer Plan

This plan, devised by Ehud Prawer with addenda by Benny Begin, refers to the Bedouin-Arab Israeli citizens in the Negev / Naqab in the south of the country. The Bedouin population makes up about 30% of the total population in the region. About 70,000 of them reside in villages that pre-existed the state of Israel, or were created through military decree in the 1950s. These villages, through, remain “unrecognized” by the state, and their inhabitants are considered “squatters” on state lands.
The Plan, approved by the Israeli government in 2011, aims to forcibly remove inhabitants of those “unrecognized villages,” and resettle them in towns designated for the Bedouin population. The Prawer plan will thus deprive Palestinian citizens of Israel from their lands, home and livelihood, as well as their basic right to determine where to live.
In 2013, Palestinian Bedouins, together with activists from all over Palestine, launched a public campaign against the Prawer plan. This campaign also entailed a few “days of rage,” where thousands of protesters too to the streets in several location and demonstrated against the racist plan of uprooting. Israeli police responded with brute force, deploying riot police, special forces and horse-mounted police, violently arresting hundreds of activists, many of them remained in detention for months.

    IDF escalates violence towards protesters:

In recent weeks, I have witnessed on several occasions a worrying trend in the way the IDF opts to handle popular protests in the West Bank: In addition to tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets, the army now deploys well-positioned snipers that target protesters with live ammunition, hence the recent sharp rise in injuries (many…

“No one is coming this way, not even the alternative tours groups,” explained Claire wistfully and sighed, as she unlocked the door to her gift shop.
