Local activists took to the streets tonight to demonstrate their rage at the death of Maysara Abu Hamdiah from Hebron earlier today (2 April, 2013). Ab Hamdiah was a long time prisoner in the occupation jails and was serving a life sentence when he was recently diagnosed with a late stage throat cancer. However, the occupation prison authorities withheld proper medical care, and Abu Hamdiah slipped into a coma and passed away. As news of his death spread, many took to the streets in anger and clashed with the occupation army and policing forces in Hebron, Jerusalem and Qalandia, among other places. Yafa-based activists held a vigil to commemorate Abu Hamdiah, exhibit rage at his maltreatment, and also show solidarity with the Palestinian political prisoners, many of whom launched a hunger strike in protest of Abu Hamdiah’s death.
Regular vigils in support of Palestinian political prisoners are held every Thursday, 6p, at Clock Tower square in Yafa. Please join us if you can.
