Hundreds of activists arrived to Ashkelon from all over the country, to stand in solidarity with Muhammad ‘Alan, a Palestinian attorney in administrative detention, which has been on a hunger strike for two months. The Israeli police blocked the entrance to the city, forcing protesters to descend the buses and hold a demonstration there, bringing traffic to a halt. Israeli police deployed officers with full riot gear, horse mounted policemen and the “skunk” trucks in attempts to brutally suppress the demonstration. At least 10 demonstrators were arrested, and several were injured and required medical attention. Israeli Zionists, on the other hand, gathered outside the hospital and then rushed over to the intersection, trying to attack Palestinians, cheering on the police brutality and chanting racial slurs. A few of them also vandalized vehicles belonging to Palestinians, including journalists.
