More than 2,000 refugees and asylum seekers from Eritrea and Sudan are currently held in indefinite detention and without judicial review at Holot facility in the Naqab desert. The only way out of Holot is for them to agree to go back to their home countries. Those who have applied for asylum never heard back from the Israeli authorities. This is another example of how Israel continues to violate international human rights law.
On World Refugee Day the detainees continued their one week protest against their detention, lack of suitable medical care and poor conditions. Three of the detainees were arrested for organizing the protest.
