About 50,000 Zionist settlers and sympathizers marched today in occupied Jerusalem marking the anniversary of the occupation of he eastern parts. Zionist youth waving the Israeli flags and other banners supporting the occupation marched trough the Muslim quarter in the old city, chanting in front of Damascus Gate, taunting local Palestinian residents. Several hundred Palestinians, accompanied by Israeli solidarity activists, stanged a counter protest, which started at Damascus Gate but violently pushed back into a nearby Palestinian neighbourhood. Large forces of Israeli police, including horse-mounted riot police, brutally suppressed the counter protest, arrest at least 20 people, including journalists documenting the event. Several others were injured and needed medical attention.
