A group of activists led by the Coalition of Women for Peace staged a vigil in front of a military base in Tel Aviv in solidarity with Ahed, Nariman and Nour Tamimi. All three woman were jailed by the Israeli army following a viral video depicting Ahed (16), slapping an Israeli soldier who invaded her home, immediately following another incident when her relative, 15 years old Muhammad, sustained a severe head injury. Muhammad had to go through a complicated surgery, and he is currently recovering in a Ramallah hospital. Ahed was abducted from her home in the middle of the night by the Israeli soldiers following a smear campaign in the Israeli media. The following night, her mother, Nariman, and her cousin, 21 years old Nour, were nabbed as well by the military. Ahed’s story has already reverberated through international news outlets, hailing her as a symbol of a new generation of Palestinian youth who grew up with the occupation.
The Tel Aviv activists knelt down, bound and blindfolded outside the walls of the military base, in a performance reminiscent of the plight of Palestinian political prisoners.
